For those of you tired of bugging your Blackberry help desk with questions like "why can't I do...", RIM has announced some new features at the Lotusphere 2008 conference in Orlando.
There are a number of new features that will only interest server administrator and IT people, but there are a few biggies that will benefit end-users too, especially those of us in a corporate environment.
Here are some of the new features:
-Download and edit Microsoft Office documents: Documents to Go will be embedded into the Blackberry platform and now users will be able to edit Word, Excel, and Powerpoint documents.
-Free-busy calendar lookup: You can check peoples' availability for meetings on the go, without having to send them a meeting request first
-HTML and Rich Text Email rendering: Rich text and HTML emails will now maintain their original formatting such as bold, italic, tables, bullets, etc.
-Remote Search for Messages – You will be able to search for and retrieve email messages from the email server even if the message is no longer stored on the device. Very nice!
-Advanced Enterprise Instant Messaging and Presence: If your company uses Lotus Sametime and Microsoft Live Communications Server, you can for example use "click to call" from within an IM session, and also use "convert to call" to turn it into a voice all. Most importantly, it includes advanced emoticon support!
As I said, there are a lot more new features in the announcement, which can be viewed here: . These are the main ones that end users are going to care about.
I think these new features for the Blackberry help solidify it even more as a "must have" device for corporate users on the go. Have you been pining for any of these? What features would you like to see?
